With two press conferences under his belt, candidate Liam Murphy sets the stage for his campaign by listing his most prevalent issues he wants solved in the state of Kansas.
Liam Murphy, one of our democratic candidates for the 2015 campaign for Kansas’s governor, always keeps the audience on their toes while speaking. The candidate has a wonderful gift of public speaking, which tends to come in handy while campaigning for governor. In the latest press conference, we all got a taste for what Liam is looking to change here in Kansas, if elected governor. His major priorities he spoke of in his press conference were education, economy and equality.
Liam exhibits a strong voice on education reform; he has made this point in his previous conference, so it is no surprise that he brings this up now. He speaks of his “Day 1” action with return cuts while also giving these schools the resources they need in order to really make the Kansas educational system really something to be proud about. But why not bring up this point? The Kansas educational system is not up to par with the current educational standard that has been set by other states in our nation. Liam makes an excellent point that this issue not only needs to be taken care of, but also needs to be taken care of as soon as possible.
The current infrastructure in Kansas is another priority that needs action and Liam might just be that candidate to do so. Liam spoke of the state of our infrastructure and mentioned a bill that he will be using to target the lack of jobs by creating some accessibility to those jobs, which, in turn should boost our infrastructure. This point is one that should definitely be brought up from not only a state-by-state basis but on a nation-wide basis. Electing officials in separate states who have the same intentions on the infrastructure of our nation is the first step that us, as citizens, needs to grasp. The change comes from the bottom-up, starting by electing officials in our states, and ending with a worldwide change in our nation. Mr. Murphy is sounding like a good “first-step” for those readers who are concerned with our nation as a whole and not only Kansas.
One last point that stood out from Mr. Murphy’s conference that stood out, was the vision of equality in our nation. Women in our nation are still not treated 100% equally among our working class. There continues to be a wage gap between men and women in the working area, and in the current year of 2015, aren’t we passed judging a person by their sex, if anything? Liam speaks of another bill that he intends to use to eliminate this gap once and for all. He elaborates on the amount of single mothers who are currently in poverty and the lack of opportunity that those women have for raising their families; this bill is surely the first step that needs to be made in the future.
For now, the future is unknown. Only time will tell who is truly worthy of bringing Kansas into a new era. Liam Murphy has shown his credentials and his drive for the issues that matter the most. This is the exact drive that Kansas needs to make that next step into the future.
